On July 17, 2024, we interviewed Mr. Yan, who works in logistics for the well-known Yonghe Fish Balls. During our conversation, he shared his personal history and thoughts on the Sanfang Qixiang district in Fuzhou.

Mr. Yan was born and raised in Fuzhou, and he fondly recalled his childhood memories of living near the Dongjiekou area. He described enjoying local street foods and the vibrant community life that surrounded him. He lived in Sanfang Qixiang before its redevelopment in the 1990s and mentioned that he viewed the relocation as a normal part of urban renewal, without any significant differences compared to other demolition projects.
严先生出生并成长于福州，他回忆起在东街口附近生活的童年记忆。他描述了享受当地小吃和周围充满活力的社区生活。他曾在三坊七巷生活过，经历了1990年代的拆迁，并提到他认为这次搬迁是城市更新的正常部分，与其他拆迁项目没有什么特别的区别。
Now, he perceives Sanfang Qixiang as a cultural landmark for Fuzhou, showcasing its history and traditions. He appreciates how the area attracts many tourists, allowing them to experience Fuzhou’s unique culture, cuisine, and craftsmanship in a compact space. Although he no longer lives there, Mr. Yan expressed a desire to return to the area if given the chance, as he feels that Sanfang Qixiang plays an important role in both his personal life and the broader context of Fuzhou.
